Spring Business Roundtable Explores Export, Trade, and Workforce Development

Staff Reports

Village President Pat Horcher and the Economic Development staff hosted the Spring Business Roundtable, welcoming business leaders, representatives from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Office of Trade and Investment (OTI), Indian Trails Library, Greater Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce, and staff from Wheeling High School’s Manufacturing Career Pathway program. This dynamic and collaborative event celebrated business growth, innovation, and global opportunity—especially fitting during World Trade Month.

Kevin Kim, International Trade Specialist for the Asia-Pacific region at DCEO OTI, served as the keynote speaker. He provided valuable insights into key business resources and engaged attendees in a productive dialogue that fostered stronger connections and reinforced Wheeling's local and global competitiveness.

Wheeling-based manufacturers included: Cobra Cutting Services, Engis, ERA Industries, Hidden Valley, Senju America, and U.S. Tsubaki. Wheeling High School's (WHS) Career Pathway program teachers presented an overview of the renowned program and encouraged local businesses to engage with the school as it prepares the next generation of skilled talent. Connections were fostered on-the-spot and future collaborations are in-the-works.

To commemorate World Trade Month, OTI Director Margo Markopoulos presented a Proclamation from the Governor.  The Village’s Economic Development team remains committed to building partnerships that support a strong and resilient economy.
